Moon Over THE mojave

PERFECTION IS ACHIEVED NOT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO ADD, BUT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY.

My affair with cattle started before I was born.

In Feb. of 1947, my Dad, Buster Brown Bare, bought his first purebred Aberdeen Angus bull, Trogen, and 1 Angus heifer, Felicia.

It was a big event as the bull cost $500, a very healthy sum at that time.

He went on to raise beef stocker cattle, horses, cotton and alfalfa.

Angus cattle went by the way side of raising a family.

If a person is never allowed to experience failure, then
you will never know what success feels like.

His dream of a large herd disappeared for 12 years until I started up in 4-H.

My Dad with 3B Cricketeer Janerica .

Our herd line was name BBB -3B after my Dad. Our best bull was 3B Cricketter. He went on to sire many champions. Along with my Dad's unfailing help, I showed all classes, all over the State. My Dad's dream of raising Angus happened, just a little later.

It was the best time of my life.

A lie unchallenged becomes the truth.

My first cow was an Angus cross heifer, Jewel, whom I sat with every night in the barn yard and read stories to, nestled in the crook of her neck. later. She died because of eye cancer.

My first showmanship calf was a little Hereford steer my dad bought to practice with.

My first 4-H steer was Charlie, a purebred Aberden Angus, who became grand champion my first time out. A testimony to my Dad's knowledge.

When I was 11 (1959) we went to the Bank of America and I received my first livestock loan.

The proceeds from Charlie paid back the loan and with the blessing of a large profit, my Dad and I bought 2 bred Angus heifers. From these 2 heifers, we registered almost 70 head of cattle through out the years.

Charlie, my first Aberdeen Angus steer.
You used a curry comb to make every wave, then brushed it up to dry. No hair driers in those days

Thank you God for such a blessed life.
