My first cow was an Angus cross heifer, Jewel, whom I sat with every night in the barn yard and read stories to, nestled in the crook of her neck. later. She died because of eye cancer.
My first showmanship calf was a little Hereford steer my dad bought to practice with.
My first 4-H steer was Charlie, a purebred Aberden Angus, who became grand champion my first time out. A testimony to my Dad's knowledge.
When I was 11 (1959) we went to the Bank of America and I received my first livestock loan.
The proceeds from Charlie paid back the loan and with the blessing of a large profit, my Dad and I bought 2 bred Angus heifers. From these 2 heifers, we registered almost 70 head of cattle through out the years.
